Unrequited Commitment

Unrequited Commitment

Oh the pain of it:
loving someone whose walls are so thick that even the deepest affection cannot penetrate.
Oh to love someone who scorns your advances with such force,
that your heart is split open,
your hair torn out with frustration.
Why oh why, dear soul that needs warm love do you close yourself to what is good and kind and necessary?
These arms want to hold you, these fingers want to touch the places that have been wounded and beaten,
I want to bring healing but I’m left bereft,
thoughts reeling, patience bleeding out of me
until there’s nothing left.
I have wasted myself on you because I believe that you’re worth the waste.
Bring on the headstrong, full furthering of my devotion:
I will not leave you to drown in this abyss, this ocean of pain that dries you
of reason and perspective.
You cannot escape my love, I will not let you.
I’m here until the end, be it bitter or sweet.
